At 250 c. x 335 c. and with a very thick pile this is a wonderful large woollen rug.
The reverse shows beautiful definition and is closely knotted. Faults here might be said to include significant fading to one third of the area and a small triangular fragment, approx 5 c, x 3 c. missing from a corner in the faded area. This piece would have cost in excess of $2500 when new and presents well even with the faded area exposed as in this photograph. I remember reading in about 1995 in a Country Life saleroom report from the UK, of an Arts and Crafts rug where over one fifth of it’s original size had been cut out and discarded to accommodate a chimney breast in the original owner’s home. That damaged carpet went on to realise over 170,000 pounds at auction. Few things are perfect I guess. This example $300.
Please enquire about inspecting this rug at Clarendon Street as it is located in our new showroom upstairs. This area is only open by invitation at present.
