Fascinating late 19th century hall stand from France featuring all hooks intact. We are particularly drawn to the bird carving on top of the glove drawer. Brass reinforced umbrella or stick stands. French writing bureau, desk known in France as a secretaire a abattant. Leather, gold tooled writing surface with drawers in the compartment with pigeon holes, further cupboard space below. The mulicoloured marble top reminds us of the colours and shapes in a Klimt background, perhaps we are reading to much into that. Problems are not insignificant in that pieces of veneer are missing, please see specific photos. On the plus side these issues oblige us to take $500/$800 off what one would normally expect to pay for such an item. The desk is still entirely useable as is.
